Simple Pop Ups You Can Make (1)

BAT

Step 1: Print out this page on a heavy paper, like card stock or
             construction paper.




Step 2: Print out this page on a heavy paper, like card stock
            or construction paper.



Step 3:Lay the card that has the outline of the bat's feet on a flat surface.
Take a ruler and line the edge of it up against the center fold line of the card.


Step 4:Use the rounded end of a paper clip
            (or a ball point pen that has run out of ink) and press it along the dotted,
            center line carefully scoring the card all the way from top to bottom.


Step 5:Cut the card out carefully following the solid, black lines around the edges.





Step 6:Fold the card in half, closing it along the center fold line you've just scored.
Crease it with your thumb and finger, then open the card up again.
Put the card aside for now.










Step 7:Take your ruler and carefully score ALL the dotted lines on the sheet
            that has the pop-up bat on it.
            Take your time and make sure you score ALL the lines.

Step 8:Cut the bat pop-up piece out carefully following the solid, black
            lines around the edges.

Step 9:Fold the entire pop-up piece in half along the center fold line, making sure
            that all the dotted lines are still visible...

Step 10:...and crease with your thumb or finger.

Step 11:Open the pop-up piece again and lay it on a flat surface.
              Take hold of the lower left foot.

Step 12:Fold the lower LEFT foot up towards the body and crease the
              fold with your thumb or finger.
              Lower the left foot back down again.

Step 13:Take hold of the lower RIGHT foot...

Step 14:...and fold it up towards the body creasing it with your thumb or finger.
              Lower the right foot back down again.

Step 15:Your bat should now look like this:
The main body is folded towards you, leaning slightly forward and the feet are both flat.

Step 16:Take hold of the lower part of the LEFT wing as shown above.

Step 17:Slowly begin to push the wing, along its fold, in towards the body.

Step 18:Continue pushing until the wing lays completely over the body to the RIGHT
              side as shown above.Open the wing back up and repeat this process
              on the other side.

Step 19:Your bat should now look like this:
The wings are leaning in from the sides of the body and the feet are still flat.

Step 20:Take hold of the bat's head.

 Step 21:Fold the head down towards the body along its fold lines.

Step 22:Pinch the head between your thumb and finger. Pinching will reverse
              the fold of the head so it matches the fold of the main body.

Step 23:Your pop-up bat should now look like this!
Hang on, you're almost finished!
 

Step 24:Take your card and apply glue only to the insides of the feet areas.

Step 25:Place the feet of the pop-up bat over the feet areas on the card and
              carefully press down letting the glue dry.

Step 26:After the glue has dried carefully close the card.

Step 27:Your pop-up Halloween bat is finished!
Decorate with crayons, markers or colored pencils then show your scary
creation to your friends!
